IBM 8191151 DDS-2 data cartridge provides 4GB native capacity with 2:1 compression support for up to 8GB per tape. Part number 8191151 uses DAT (Digital Audio Tape) technology on 394-foot media rated for 5,000 head passes. DDS-2 format is compatible with DDS-2 and earlier generation drives commonly found in legacy backup systems, tape autoloaders, and enterprise tape libraries from the 1990s and early 2000s. Typical use cases include archival of older backup sets, retention of historical data on existing DDS infrastructure, and cold storage where modern LTO migration is not required.
